First launch
Neither build is code-signed yet, so each adds a one-time prompt the first time you open it. After that it runs like any other app.
Windows
- Open the downloaded exegesis-windows.exe. If SmartScreen says “Windows protected your PC”, choose More info, then Run anyway — the installer is not code-signed yet, so Windows has not seen it before.
- Follow the setup wizard. It installs Exegesis and adds a Start menu shortcut.
- From then on Exegesis checks for newer builds itself and offers each one inside the app. You never need to come back here.
Linux
- Mark the AppImage executable:
chmod +x exegesis-linux.AppImage - Double-click it, or run it from a terminal. There is no install step — keep the file wherever you want the app to live; updates replace it in place.
./exegesis-linux.AppImage - If it will not start, two system libraries may be missing: FUSE 2, which every AppImage needs, and WebKitGTK, which the sign-in window uses (already present on GNOME desktops). On Debian or Ubuntu:
sudo apt install libfuse2 libwebkit2gtk-4.1-0 - On Fedora:
sudo dnf install fuse webkit2gtk4.1
Check what you downloaded
Each card above prints the SHA-256 of the file currently published. Compare it with the hash of your copy — they must match exactly — and you know the download arrived whole and untouched. The app runs the same check before it installs an update.

- One account, every device. Sign in and the notes, studies, highlights, and library you built on your phone are already here — and what you add at the desk goes back the other way.
- Updates arrive in the app. Exegesis checks for a newer build when it opens and now and then while it runs, downloads it in the background, verifies it, and installs it on your next quit.
- Features land on the phone first, so a surface or two may still be catching up on the desktop.
- Only install from this page, so you always get a known-good build. Found a problem? Write to [email protected].
