Exegesis (the "app") is a Bible-study application for mobile and desktop, operated by CV Concierge LLC ("Exegesis", "we", "us"). This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to the Exegesis apps and this website.
Information we collect
- Account and profile. Your email address and a display name you choose. If you use Sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name, email, and (for Google) profile picture, limited to the permissions you approve, to create and secure your account.
- Your study content. Notes, highlights, reading history, bookmarks, reference and concept maps, topics, and interpretive-weight analyses you create. We store these so they sync across your devices.
- AI assistant ("Aura"). The messages you send to the in-app assistant and the content you ask it to act on. To generate responses, these are processed by third-party AI providers. We may create numeric "embeddings" of your notes and topics so the assistant can search your own content; embeddings are derived data, not readable text.
- Newsletter. When you agree to the sign-up consent you also opt in to our newsletter, so we collect your email address and subscription status. We use double opt-in (a confirmation email), and you can unsubscribe at any time from any email or in Settings.
- Technical and diagnostic data. Limited information such as app version, device type, and error logs needed to operate and improve the service. This website uses privacy-respecting, cookieless analytics.
How we use your information
To provide and sync your account and study content; to operate the AI assistant when you use it; to send the newsletter if you opted in; to secure, maintain, and improve the service; and to comply with our legal obligations.
Sign in with Google and Apple
We use Google and Apple solely to authenticate you. We receive only the profile information you approve (such as name and email) and use it to create your account. We do not access your Google or Apple data beyond sign-in, and Exegesis's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
How we share information
We share data only with service providers that help us run Exegesis:
- Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage hosting.
- AI providers — Anthropic and OpenAI process assistant messages and generate embeddings to deliver the AI features.
- Email provider — sends the newsletter and account-related emails.
- Google and Apple — only when you choose to sign in with them.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your private study content to train third-party AI models beyond what is needed to fulfill the request you make.
Storage, security, and international transfers
Your data is stored on managed cloud infrastructure with encryption in transit, and access is restricted. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. Your data may be processed in the United States and other countries where our providers operate.
Retention and deletion
We keep your data while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from the app's Account settings, which removes your account and associated study content. You can unsubscribe from the newsletter from any email or in the app.
Your rights and choices
You may access, correct, or delete your data, and withdraw newsletter consent, at any time. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal information; contact us to exercise them.
Children
Exegesis is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent where you live), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. During sign-up we ask for a date of birth and block account creation for anyone under 13.
If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without verifiable parental consent, we delete it and close the account. A parent or guardian who believes their child has provided us personal information can contact us at [email protected] to review or delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will revise the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, provide additional notice.
